Far From The Ordinary
Been a while since I last posted, it has been a busy time for me! Work and wedding planning has snowed me under!
I have somehow accumulated a bunch of product from the cult brand The Ordinary by DECIEM. Which I decide just to review in one long post. In this post I will be reviewing The Coverage Foundation, Rose Hip Facial Oil, and two of their primers, The High-Adherence and The High-Spreadable.
Coverage Foundation (30mls) £5.90
First I discovered the Coverage Foundation. If anything is labelled as full coverage, I just need to try it. But secondly before I buy any product I will read and watch all the reviews, This is probably why I started blogging, I just want to avoid wasting my money on something ridiculously terrible! This when I discovered that this foundation once had a 25,000 person waiting list, crash the companies servers and it costs just £5.90. £5.90, I just wanted to click into my basket and part with my hard earned cash immediately! I just needed figured out my shade, I always find this difficult, especially when you cannot physically see it.
This collection has a wide range of shades, there are 21 in total. Ranging from Very Pale to Very Deep. I would be fair to say every skin tone is equally covered.
Each shade has 2 digits follow by letter(s). The first digit is the shade. 1 is fair to light, 2 is medium tones and 3 is darker tones. The second digit ranges from 0-3 which indicates the depth of the shade. The letter indicated the undertone, P is Pink, Y is Yellow, R is Red, N is Neutral. 3 shades have additional letter S which indicated it has a slight silver highlight, and G which indicated a slight gold highlight. I figured that I need 1.1N. But could I find it anywhere, nope, my shade was sold out everywhere! So everyday I get looked to see if it was there, and after a week also I magically appeared. Straight in the basket, sold!
In addition to it wide range of shades, and its amazing price, it also has SPF 15. Although it is said that foundation with SPF does not photograph the best, it is better for your skin and the ageing process so it a positive for me!
As you can probably tell I was hoping this was going to be the foundation of my dreams, but, maybe I was getting a bit ahead of myself.
Firstly it could partly be my fault but the shade may be too light for me, but with a bit of extra bronzing I can make it work.
Secondly, When I put it on the morning it look good, not amazing, but good, but as the day progresses it become so cakey, especially on my forehead. I clings to any dry patches. I thought it was my primer at first, but I since tried it with at least three different primers. Then I though some foundations only like there own brand primers so I purchased The Ordinary primers but unfortunately it didn't really solve anything.
Although I really wanted to love this foundation, it has let me down, it had become that foundation which I rarely reach for. I may try it again in the summer when my skin is not as dry, it might make the difference. I am determined to make this foundation work.
100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil (30ms) £9.00
On the brands website this product contains linoleic acid, linolenic acid and pro-vitamin A, which are all beneficial to all skin types.
Right, OK, what are these?!
So, I did some research and this is what I found out;
Linoleic acid, also known as Omega 6, is helpful for those with clogged pores and oily skin. This is so me! My T Zone can get so oily and I have the joys of acne prone skin!
Linolenic acid, also known as Omega 3, which aids the skin to heal, hydrate and plump.
Pro-Vitamin A has a positive impact on the skins and elastin, slowing down the skin ageing process. It also increases the blood flow in the blood vessels therefore it can reduce wrinkles.
£9.00 for a miracle in a bottle, and I for one really enjoy using this product.
It is recommended that this product is apply at bedtime, as the last step of your skin care routine. As It is a oil, it takes a long time to soak into the skin, and is difficult to wash off with water.
My skin routine is really poor always has been, I have absolutely no routine and I try to stick to one but I am really bad at it. I use this product maybe a couple of days a week. I even with its limited use, it makes my skin feel soft, it also reduces my oils which I love.
I have also found different uses for this product, I sometimes put a tiny drop in my dried out brow pomade in order to thin it out to make it easier to use. I also like to put some on my lips it I find them especially dry or crack. I also mix a couple of drops in my brush cleaning solution to keep by make up brushes conditioned.
The only part about the product I dislike the packaging. It is in a glass bottle, anything glass is not travel friendly, and as an alternative to a pump it have a pipet. I understand the concept, as it has them chemistry class feel, but, is sometimes can make the application of the product a bit messy, so you have to be careful. On a positive note, it does mean this you can apply it on your face like those videos you see on Instagram!!
Overall I highly rate this product and I will try to use it on a more regular basis. I will try again to get my skin care in to some form of routine. I will be definitely will repurchase once when I run out.
High-Adherence Blurring Surface Smoother and Primer (30mls) £3.90
The primer claimed the be a mattifiying primers which fills in the skin pores, giving a blurred effect. It also states that it mades make up adhere for longer. Some bold claims there.
The constancy of the primer is thick. It comes in a squeeze bottle and almost feels as if you squeezing out some heavy suncream. The fact that it is thin does mean that it does feels as though you have not put on an even application and you have to make sure that you have got into those difficult places e.g. around the nose.
Furthermore, it takes ages to dry, I used it this morning but as I did not have a lot of time, I wait a while before I quickly used the hair dryer out to dry it quicker.
It not tacky therefore I am confused about the adherence aspect, which you put you foundation it does not feel as if it is going to stay there. Not until you powder your face. As the day progresses it does feels more and more uncomfortable.
I sat on the flight, I travel back to Portugal today, feeling a it my skin was feeling very oily when it was not. It would be fair to say it keeps you make up in place for the first 4-6 hours but then you oily do start to appear, and you need to touch up with powder. I also found it made me look as if I had really bad smile lines, when I don’t. I find this out when using one of my favourite foundation which I never had bad smile lines with in the past.
For £3.90 it worth ago but I prefer the next primer I reviewed. When I was looking in to purchasing a primer from The Ordinary I could not make up my mind about which would work best for me. But as though they a both very reasonable you can very easily purchase both and take it from there.
High-Spreadability Fluid Primer (30mls) £5.50
SPOILER: I think I have saved my favourite until last!
This primer is almost like a serum in constancy which claims to evenly spread the skin’s complexion. Which helps for an even application of foundation, as it does not clump up on drier patches.
I love this primer and has quickly became my favourite replacing my old favourite the Nivea Post Shave Balm. I like the way it feel on the skin, it make you skin feel super smooth. It is easy to apply, due to it constancy, when applying you can almost feel it filling in your pores and your skin becoming more even.
I love using this with my work foundation, the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless, and the Maybelline 24 Hour Superstar. But less so which the The Ordinary Full Coverage Foundation.
Although this primer, is not a mattifying primer I have not find the to be problem for two reasons, firstly I am enjoy having more of a dewy look and I look the fact it can solve the problem of the dry patch which I have, especially on my forehead.
This primer is not silicon free and some silicon primers I have tried in the past have broken my skin out but the one has not maybe because it almost is like thick water and it provides the skin with much need hydration.
I only downside is the pipet type applicator, but this product is so good I can definitely overlook that.
Overall I cannot recommend this product enough, I have only been using it for the last 3-4 week but I can safely stay I cannot live without it. When I using this product I can go hours it not the whole day without touching up it powder and it feels so good on the skin. I will be 100% be repurchasing, its only £5.50! I think I have found my holy grail primer.
Overall I really enjoy using this brand and will be definitely will be trying more of their product, especially their skin care products. They products are all cruelty free and vegan. All the products I reviewed are also gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free and alcohol-free. For more ingredient information their website is amazing, www.theordinary.com. Although products are not available to order directly from their website, UK based retailers include, ASOS, Cult Beauty, Essential and online at House of Frazer.
