Chocolat Sensation?
Today, I was trying out the the relevantly NEW L’Oreal Chocolates Matte Liquid Lipstick for the first time. I picked this up on a recent trip to my local Superdrug. They were having a 2 for 1 offer on all L’Oreal products and I was keen to try their ‘Lifes a Peach’ Blush and their ‘Unlimited’ Mascara. The last product I wished to pick up was their ‘Back to Bronze’ Bronzer but the one they had left, the seal was broken. I was not going to risk picking up something, someone may have had their hands in! (GERMS!) So I changed planned and pick up instead.

Firstly, it come in 12 shades (to my knowledge) which are mostly nudes to suit a wide range of skin tones with some pops of colour. I was torn between Candy Man, a mauve purple, nude tone, and Sweet Tooth a more carmel nude. They all have amazing chocolate based names! But decide to go with Candy Man as I was not super keen on the orangey warm undertone of Sweet Tooth. (Personal Preference!)
First of all, and the first thing you notice when you open it is the smell, it smells of Chocolate, not sweet smelling Chocolate (thinking of the Too Faced Chocolate Palette when writing this!), it smells of strong cocoa. I am not put of by products having strong scents, I love all the Too Faced product smells and even the L’Oreal ‘Life a Peach’ Blush smells of Peaches. But if scents do not appeal to you or, you have a problem with scent, this is not a product for you.
The product is quite thick and because of this the lipstick does take a long time to dry. But on the other hand this does improve the comfort of the lipstick on your lips, as it does not feel too drying. But I understand this would made it uncomfortable for some people.
This product does not come off! When making my mind up of which shade I wanted, I swatched a small amount of 3 different shades on the back of my hand. I showered twice and scrub it off with a make up wipes, and but this time it had faded but it was really stubborn, and its the same on the lips. It survived my oily lunch and numerous coffees. Although it did crack in my lips a bit, this could be due to my lips not being adequately moisturised before applying the product. I topped it up after 5 or so hours and the cracking issue was resolved. It survived 5 hours before being reapplied which is amazing for a drug store lipstick so I was not disappointed, in fact I was very impressed.

Am I Calling A Dupe?
My sister noticed that this product was quite similar in colour to Beauty Bakerie’s Liquid Matte Lip Whip in Versailles. This is one of my favourite lipstick which I tend to use seldomly, as it very drying on the lips. So I use it on days when I know my lipstick will be put to the test or will need to survive a long day.
Although the colour is very similar Versailles is quite a bit darker than Candy Man, the formula is similar although Versailles dried down more matte and feels drier. I would say Versailles is longer lasting as it formular can only be removed with oil based removers. Beauty Bakerie does sale their own make up wipes which as designed to go with their Lip Whips. (I usually resort to getting it off with either my Rose Hip Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil - Do Not Judge Me!!) Due to the way it has to be removed it a nightmare to travel with, I do not want to travel with numerous make up removers! Although Candy Man is not as tough it can be removed with normal makeup wipes or remover which makes it an easier travel companion.
They is a major cost difference between them the Lip Whip sell for £19.20 from Beauty Bay (they do have numerous UK stockist including QVUK, and ASOS), whereas the L’Oreal Chocolats Lipstick sell for £8.99 for numerous drugstores including Boots and Superdrug.
